3 Ways to Choose a Hand Grinder that Best Suits You

Perhaps it was the coffee beans gifted by a friend, or maybe it was the coffee grinder by your favourite cafe; as your coffee journey continues, your sense of taste and preferences start to develop.

Hand grinders are also useful when you want to brew a great cup of coffee on your camping trip or just enjoying the process of hand grinding on your down time.

With so many different models and features, how do you pick the right hand grinder for you?

 1. Decide the coffee brewing method you use the most often

Is it primarily hand brew or would you also do other methods such as Moka Pot, manual espresso levers, or semi-automatic espresso machines, etc would require a different grind sizes and adjustments.

For hand brew methods such as the V60, chemex or the French Press, then you should choose a hand grinder that is best for that such as the 1Zpresso Q2 and 1Zpresso JX-Pro

For pressurized methods such as the Moka Pot, Lattes or espressos, then the 1Zpresso J-Max and the 1Zpresso K-Max (and the 1Zpresso K-Plus) would be more suitable.

2. Your strength and hand size

Usually the easiness of grinding and the strength required depends on the size and shape of the burrs, the size of the grind required and the roast level of the coffee.

There are grinders that are aimed at smaller and weaker hands (like my wife's). The 1Zpresso Q2 Heptagonal version is such a grinder if it is mainly used for hand brew methods.

The J-series (J-Max and JX-Pro) are best for espressos or methods that require finer grinds; however since the size is a bit bigger and if you are mainly grinding the lighter roasts, then it might be harder to grind if your hands are smaller and weaker. The silicone rubber can be used to get a better grip.

The K-series grinders are better overall grinders and offer better grip than the J-series grinders.

3. Your Budget

With so many choices of hand grinders in the market, there isn't going to be the "best grinder" and it also doesn't mean the most expensive would be the best grinder FOR YOU. It depends on what your needs are and what your budget is. So there really isn't a best grinder, only one that is best for you!

We, at Rohi Coffee, has chosen to only sell products we have used and loved and we also kept in mind the price affordability as well.
