3 Ways to Choose a Hand Grinder that Best Suits You
Posted on September 24 2022,
As you continue on your coffee journey, you may find that your sense of taste and preferences start to develop. Perhaps it was the coffee beans gifted by a friend or the coffee grinder used by your favourite cafe that sparked your interest.
Hand grinders are a great option for those who want to brew a great cup of coffee on their camping trip or just enjoy the process of hand grinding in their downtime. However, with so many different models and features available, how do you choose the right hand grinder for you?
Determine your primary brewing method
Consider which coffee brewing method you use most often. Different brewing methods, such as hand brew, Moka Pot, manual espresso levers, or semi-automatic espresso machines, require different grind sizes and adjustments. If your primary brewing method is hand brew, then you should choose a hand grinder that is best for that, such as the 1Zpresso Q2 S and 1Zpresso JX-Pro. If you primarily use pressurized methods such as the Moka Pot, Lattes, or espressos, then the 1Zpresso J-Max and the 1Zpresso K-Max (and the 1Zpresso K-Plus) would be more suitable.
Consider your strength and hand size
The size and shape of the burrs, the size of the grind required, and the roast level of the coffee can all affect the ease of grinding and the strength required. If you have smaller or weaker hands, consider a grinder like the 1Zpresso Q2 S Heptagonal version, which is best for hand brew methods. The J-series (J-Max and JX-Pro) are best for methods that require finer grinds, such as espressos, but may be harder to grind for those with smaller and weaker hands. The silicone rubber grip can help with this. The K-series grinders offer better grip than the J-series grinders and are better overall grinders.
Determine your budget
There are many hand grinders on the market, and the most expensive one is not necessarily the best one for you. Consider your needs and budget when choosing a grinder.
